Azusa veterans forum to address veterans benefits, mental health, homelessness
For seven years, Congresswoman Grace Napolitano has held an annual veterans forum in Azusa to connect San Gabriel Valley veterans with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, whose Los Angeles and Long Beach medical centers can be prohibitively far away.
“We take care of any veterans, homeless or not,” Napolitano, D-El Monte, said. “It’s important that the VA gets to know what the needs are for veterans in the San Gabriel Valley.”
The problem the forum seeks to fix is that veterans muster out of armed service without sufficient information or education about the benefits and services available to them, Napolitano said, which can contribute to homelessness.
