Napolitano Secures $27 Million for 32nd District Projects, Over $2 Billion for Whittier Narrows Dam, Water Recycling and Mental Health Services in Minibus Appropriations Package

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Rep. Grace F. Napolitano (D-El Monte) voted for H.R. 4502, the FY2022 Labor-HHS-Education; Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA; Energy and Water Development; Financial Services and General Government; Interior-Environment; Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Transportation-HUD "Minibus" appropriations package, securing $27.073 million for ten of the Community Project Funding requests she submitted on behalf of her district.

"The projects funded with this money will create good-paying local jobs to boost our recovery and improve the everyday lives of San Gabriel Valley residents," Napolitano said. "From vital groundwater cleanup and development of parks as well as other recreational facilities, to public safety enhancements and increased job training and life-saving mental health services, we are investing in our future while addressing many of the urgent needs of our communities. I thank my constituents, cities, and local stakeholders who submitted requests, and I will continue fighting throughout the appropriations process to deliver these funds to my district."

H.R. 4502 passed by a vote of 219 to 208 and will now go to the Senate for consideration. It also included over $2 billion for the following priorities Napolitano requested for her district and the Southern California region:

  • Whittier Narrows Dam Safety Project - $219,591,000
  • Water Recycling and WaterSmart - $255,000,000
  • Community Mental Health Services Block Grant - $1,600,000,000

"I am very pleased our bill provides for the expansion of mental health services and water recycling programs, meeting two critical needs that have for too long been overlooked and underfunded," Napolitano said. "I am also proud it funds the Whittier Narrows Dam Safety project to completion, federal money I have worked to garner with Congresswomen Linda Sánchez and Judy Chu. I thank Chairs Rosa DeLauro, Marcy Kaptur, and all of the other appropriators for working with me and recognizing the Importance of funding these programs."
