Napolitano's Statement on the 20th Anniversary of 9/11
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Rep. Grace F. Napolitano (D-El Monte) released the following statement on the 20th Anniversary of 9/11:
"The 20-year anniversary of 9/11 is a time of deep sorrow and remembrance for all Americans. Our minds are flooded with the horrifying images of the attacks, as we reflect on the days, months, and years which followed. No matter how many somber anniversaries pass, we recognize today is especially emotional and difficult for the families and friends of those who perished. As we continue to honor the memories of the nearly 3,000 lives lost, we extend our prayers and hearts to all of the victims' loved ones.
"Seeking to break our spirit, instill in us fear, and undermine our values and ideals, we will never forget the evil carried out by terrorists on our soil. Yet, also seared into our minds are all the brave firefighters, first responders, and everyday Americans who rushed into flaming buildings and rubble to aid their fellow Americans in need; those heroes on Flight 93 who gave their lives to save countless others as well as likely the U.S. Capitol from destruction; and those military service men and women who went to fight the terrorists, defend our nation, and bring justice to the victims' families. Our nation honors all heroes of 9/11, and we will never forget their acts of bravery, compassion, service, and sacrifice.
"Two decades ago our world was forever changed, yet when unimaginable tragedy struck, Americans' true colors were revealed. As we remain vigilant in the face of terrorism and any new threat to our freedom and democracy, we will hold true to our American values and ideals, taking heart in knowing how strong we are when we are united.”
