Rep. Napolitano's Statement on Withdrawal of U.S. Forces from Iraq

October 21, 2011

(Washington, D.C.) Today, Rep. Grace F. Napolitano welcomed news from President Barack Obama that all U.S. troops will be returning home from Iraq by the end of 2011:

“A long-awaited homecoming is finally here. Our men and women serving in Iraq can look forward to being reunited with their families, and our country can look forward to the end of a war that has lasted nearly 9 years. I salute our soldiers and their families for their service, and welcome news that our mission in Iraq has finally come to an end.

“All of us must be ready to receive our returning troops and help them readjust to civilian life. Many have suffered wounds both physical and mental during their service, and will need medical benefits, mental health services, and assistance in finding new jobs. Our wounded warriors have made great sacrifices for us abroad, and now we must give them the support they need here at home.”
