Water Quality and Job Creation Act Passes Committee
(WASHINGTON, DC) Today, H.R. 1497, the Water Quality and Job Creation Act, sponsored by Reps. Grace F. Napolitano (D-CA-32), Peter DeFazio (D-OR-04), Don Young (R-AK-At Large), and John Katko (R-NY-24), unanimously passed the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure during a full committee markup.
“In the San Gabriel Valley and across the country, water challenges of drought, flooding, and contamination require us to construct cost-effective and reliable solutions, such as water recycling, stormwater management, and groundwater replenishment,” Napolitano said. “Our bipartisan legislation will create jobs and save the taxpayers money, by supporting innovative water projects that help all aspects of the water cycle, from capture to treatment to supply.”
H.R. 1497 reauthorizes the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, the primary funding mechanism for states to upgrade, maintain, and build wastewater infrastructure. It provides a total of $2.68 billion in EPA grants and $14 billion in EPA loans for cities and local agencies to construct stormwater projects, water recycling and reuse projects, groundwater recharge projects, and water pollution and control projects.
Napolitano is the highest-ranking Californian on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure where she serves as Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment.
